When was it last updated? This edition has several major changes from the last edition. But anyways, there are lots of stories which deal with contemporary issues, and it's all really modern I was surprised to read a page talking about Obama, I guess I was used to outdated books which still listed Bush as president and it's a mix of classic literature such as The Lottery with modern issues such as the debate of whether or not football is too dangerous for kids.
The backbone of the book is of course focused on improving your English, but it does it good job giving you structure, grammar, vocabulary, and growth concepts yes, contemplation, life, etc etc.
